CLI reference
The pontia CLI configures the local installation and delegates durable control-plane operations to the running pontiad service.
Use pontia COMMAND --help for the exact options in your installed version.
Setup and lifecycle
| Command | Purpose |
|---|---|
pontia init | Select Agent Clients, create persistent configuration, install integrations, start the per-user service, and offer remote setup |
pontia up | Install or refresh the per-user service definition and start or restart the service |
pontia status | Show installation, enabled, running, and HTTP health state |
pontia down | Stop and disable the per-user service |
pontia update | Install the latest signed stable pontia and pontiad release |
pontia --version | Print the installed version |
Stopping pontiad stops observation, input reception, and Workflow scheduling. It is not proof that a running Agent Client, Turn, or native conversation has ended.
Cloud login and remote access
| Command | Purpose |
|---|---|
pontia login | Complete browser-based device authorization and store a CLI credential |
pontia remote enable | Register this device, select an Edge, and create its E2E identity |
pontia remote status | Compare local identity state with the Cloud registration |
pontia remote edit --name NAME | Change the device display name |
pontia remote edit --handle HANDLE | Change the device Dashboard URL handle |
pontia remote rotate-key | Replace the device E2E identity and key version |
pontia remote disable | Unregister this device and remove its local remote identity |
Remote configuration changes that affect pontiad restart the local service automatically.
Workflows
| Command | Context | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
pontia workflow run FILE | Any local shell | Parse a TOML definition and start a Workflow through the local API |
pontia workflow show [WORKFLOW_ID] | Any local shell; ID optional inside a managed Node | Print compact Workflow, current Node, input, output, and Patch context |
pontia workflow submit | Current managed Agent Node pane | Declare the Node’s output ready |
pontia workflow patch request | Current managed Agent Node pane | Report a blocking problem and start replanning |
pontia workflow patch apply | Current Re-planner pane | Accept the candidate definition as a new revision |
pontia workflow patch block | Current Re-planner pane | Finish the Patch without applying the candidate definition |
The pane-scoped commands reject calls outside the Pontia-managed tmux pane because they derive the Session and runtime identity from that pane.
Exit status and errors
Commands return success only when the requested operation reports an operational result. Errors are written to standard error with a pontia: prefix. Keep the full redacted error when diagnosing a failure.
pontia-edge
A self-hosted Edge has a separate root-operated CLI:
| Command | Purpose |
|---|---|
pontia-edge init --edge-id ID --ticket TICKET | Initialize and register an Edge; normally use the full Cloud-generated command |
pontia-edge retry | Resume incomplete initialization on the same server |
pontia-edge update | Install the latest signed stable Edge release |
pontia-edge auto-update enable | Install and enable hourly update checks |
pontia-edge auto-update disable | Disable future checks |
pontia-edge auto-update status | Show timer schedule and the last update result |
See Self-host an Edge before using these commands directly.
