Linux
Pontia supports x86_64 and ARM64 Linux releases built for GNU userspace. The local control plane runs as a systemd user service; a self-hosted Edge runs as a system systemd service.
Local requirements
The release installer requires curl, grep, install, jq, mktemp, mv, openssl, rm, sha256sum, tar, tr, uname, and wc. OpenSSL must support Ed25519 verification.
A working systemd user manager is required. The standard installation directory is $HOME/.local/bin, which must be on your shell PATH before running pontia init.
Service files
pontia init installs:
~/.config/systemd/user/pontia.service The unit records the absolute pontiad path, PONTIA_HOME, Cloud origin, and required Agent Client paths. Manage it through the Pontia CLI:
pontia up
pontia status
pontia down For direct diagnosis:
systemctl --user status pontia.service --no-pager --full
journalctl --user -u pontia.service --no-pager -n 200 When Codex is selected, initialization also installs ~/.config/systemd/user/pontia-codex.service, enables it, and enables user lingering so the daemon can run without an active login shell.
Desktop and headless systems
The service manager must be available to the target user. On a headless host, log in as that user and verify:
systemctl --user is-system-running Pontia does not install the local control plane as a root system service. Avoid running pontia init with sudo, because that would configure a different home and user service.
Self-hosted Edge
pontia-edge supports Linux only and requires root for initialization and service management. Its unit is /etc/systemd/system/pontia-edge.service. Do not substitute the Edge process for the local pontiad service; they have separate roles and installations.
