Frequently asked questions

Do agents run in Pontia Cloud?

No. Agent Clients, tools, credentials, and project files stay on your device. Pontia Cloud coordinates identity and remote authorization; an Edge relays encrypted traffic.

Is a Workspace an operating-system sandbox?

No. Workspace roots limit what the Pontia browser exposes for activation and file discovery. The Agent Client still has the permissions and sandbox policy of its local process.

Can I use Pontia without an account?

Yes. The local Dashboard uses an External API token and listens on the device’s loopback address; access from elsewhere requires a secure tunnel or forwarding configuration. The hosted Remote Dashboard requires a Pontia Cloud login and registered device.

Can Pontia read my prompts or project data?

Pontia has three runtime components:

  • Pontia Cloud manages users, authentication, device registration, and access authorization. It does not receive Dashboard traffic or project files.
  • pontiad runs on your device, coordinates Agent Clients, and serves prompts and agent data to your Dashboard.
  • Pontia Edge relays end-to-end encrypted traffic between the browser and pontiad. It cannot decrypt that traffic.

Your prompts and project data remain on your device.

What should I back up?

Back up project files independently. $PONTIA_HOME contains local control state, Workflow files, and sensitive credentials; back it up only to a trusted encrypted destination. Agent Client native conversation data may live outside PONTIA_HOME and follows that Client’s own backup rules.

Does Pontia support Windows?

No. The local control plane supports Linux and macOS 11 or later. Self-hosted Edge supports Linux only.
